Anatomic and Physiologic Properties and Clinical Manifestations ofVestibulo-Autonomic Reflexes

چکیده

The vestibular nervous system senses linear and angular acceleration upon the head during postural change generates nerve activity changes. autonomic regulates involuntary physiologic processes throughout peripheral central systems. systems interplay several brain regions to maintain homeostasis changes, called vestibulo-autonomic reflex. In this review, we first contemplated anatomic properties of reflex, focusing on relationship between cardiovascular respiratory role brainstem cerebellum Then, summarized dysfunction reported in patients with various disorders, such as acute unilateral vestibulopathy, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, Meniere’s disease, persistent perceptual dizziness. Finally, described mechanism manifestation disorders detail using recently proposed syncope integrating system, cerebellum, functions.

Anatomic and Physiologic Considerations

THE CLINICAL importance of ischemic heart disease has provided a powerful stimulus for the development of new and better methods for the study of the coronary circulation. In the animal laboratory, the electromagnetic flowmeter has replaced the rotameter as the standard method of measuring coronary blood flow. Flowmeter probes can be implanted around a dog's coronary artery and utilized to stud...

Anatomic and Physiologic Considerations

Anatomic and Physiologic Considerations Nerve fibers subserving the sense of smell have their cells of origin in the mucous membrane of the upper and posterior parts of the nasal cavity (superior turbinates and nasal septum). The entire olfactory mucosa covers an area of about 2.5 cm2 and contains three cell types—the olfactory or receptor cells (which number between 6 and 10 mil l ion in each ...

CLINICAL PROGRESS Cardiac Pain Anatomic Pathways and Physiologic Mechanisms

W ILLIAM HARVEY demonstrated to Charles I that the heart was insensitive to pain.' The subject of this observation was the son of Count Montgomery, a young man who had miraculously survived an injury to his ribs and costal cartilages that left the beating heart exposed in an open cavity. Harvey observed that neither pricking nor pinching the epicardium evoked any sensation of discomfort. Two an...

Airway reflexes, autonomic function, and cardiovascular responses.

In this article, we review the cardiovascular responses to the inhalation of irritants and pollutants. Many sensory receptors in the respiratory system, from nose to alveoli, respond to these irritants and set up powerful reflex changes, including those in the cardiovascular system. Systemic hypotension or hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, bradycardia, tachycardia, and dysrhythmias have all...
